Our New Years Resolutions

Hey TEDxErs!

A new year brings along new resolutions, which often get tossed to the side after a week. It may seem like the practice of making New Year’s resolutions is pointless now, but the real value lies in understanding the true purpose behind your resolution. Of course, everyone wants to eat healthier, stop skipping their lectures, and read more books. However, to have truly impactful resolutions, it’s important to dig deeper. Take a moment to self-reflect, and assess what you want to change about your current life and self. Will these changes still matter 5 years or 10 years down the line? By shifting the way you think about resolutions, you have the potential to make more meaningful and lasting progress.

Resolutions can be a good reminder that you always have the opportunity to change, but it’s up to you to actually make that change. As 2021 kicks off, it’s a great time to try new things, cultivate new habits, and learn something new about yourself!

Some of our team members shared their personal new year's resolutions with us here:

“My resolution is to strengthen my sense of self and spend more time actually living and enjoying the small moments of life.”

- Kelly Zhou

“My resolution is to consistently run 5-6 days a week and to read and learn from as many unique points of views as possible.”

- Arjun Rao

“One of my resolutions is to document more of my life and make memories that will last.”

- Nancy Chen

“My resolution is to try not to lose perspective of the bigger picture of my life and not get overwhelmed with anxiety over the little, everyday things”

- Parredhi Khurana

“One of my resolutions is to leave scarcity in the past and focus directly on abundance in my life.”

- Maria Villarreal

“One of my resolutions is to learn more about what I’m truly passionate about and actively pursue those passions everyday, in some way.”

- Aditi Kalla

As we move into this new year, here are some things that might help guide you and provide some motivation as the school year begins.

  1. Here is a playlist curated by TED designed to help with those days where you might not have the motivation to accomplish what you want to. Remember that no matter what, the completion of your “to-do” list does not determine your self worth! We hope these talks help!

  2. If you’re looking for your own reflection activities in the new year, you can find one here! Year Compass offers a free booklet with questions geared to reflect on the year as a whole while helping set out a plan for the upcoming year. They even have a pandemic version with a few specific questions!
