Gratitude in Quarantine

Hey TEDxErs!

2020 has been the most chaotic year that we’ve had in a while. With everything being thrown at us, from COVID-19 to going into quarantine to overall pandemonium, these have definitely become trying times.

For the first time ever, TED, like many other organizations, has been forced to transition to a virtual setting. This transition was very much new terrain that we’ve had to adjust to, and while initially difficult and strange, it became something we eventually acclimated to. It has been difficult, but also with that we have learned many things. We acknowledge that the members of our team are very fortunate to be in situations and settings during quarantine in which we are both physically and emotionally capable of reflecting upon this time. We believe it is valuable knowledge and wanted to share a list of a few things that we have learned during our time in quarantine.

  • It is important for us to take care of both our physical and mental health

  • Close familial bonds and the delight that comes with being with them are significant

  • There are joys in learning for the sake of learning without the pressure of being instantaneously perfect at it

  • Doing the things we love can be meditative and relaxing

  • We can’t control many things in life, and with proper work, we can be capable of letting go

  • Gratitude for even the smallest of things, like seeing a friend’s face virtually, can impact our entire day

  • Real love always finds a way, even from afar

  • Kindness, even the virtual kind, can go a very long way

  • Listening to good music can be a mood changer

  • Our worth does not depend on our productivity levels, we are valuable in every way

  • Technology, if available, is a powerful and useful tool when used correctly

  • Finding an exercise routine in the setting of our home can be great when it’s an activity that’s enjoyed

  • Being with nature can bring energy and spark creativity

  • It’s okay to be sad, to miss hugs and spending time with close friends

If you have had the extra time and privilege to be introspective on your current situation, we invite you to look deeper into the few months that have passed by and reflect on what these times have taught you. Everyone’s experience is distinct and unique, and thus the teachings or lessons that come with it will be particularly crafted towards your perspective, and some of the ones we’ve provided may not resonate with you. Remember to focus on what you need and what is best for you always.

Until next time we connect,
